Description

Chałka is a traditional Polish sweet bread, perfect for breakfast or special occasions.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g all-purpose flour
  • 7g dry yeast
  • 75g sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 200ml milk
  • 100g melted butter
  • Sesame seeds for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and add milk and melted butter.
  3. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry mixture and knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour.
  5. After rising, knead the dough again and divide it into three equal parts.
  6. Form long strands and braid them together.
  7. Place the braid on a baking sheet.
  8. Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  9. Brush the top with egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Use fresh yeast for better rising. Do not skip the rising step for a fluffy texture.
