Description
Chałka is a traditional Polish sweet bread, perfect for breakfast or special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500g all-purpose flour
- 7g dry yeast
- 75g sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 200ml milk
- 100g melted butter
- Sesame seeds for sprinkling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and add milk and melted butter.
- Combine the wet ingredients with the dry mixture and knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
- Cover the dough and let it rise for 1 hour.
- After rising, knead the dough again and divide it into three equal parts.
- Form long strands and braid them together.
- Place the braid on a baking sheet.
- Cover and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- Brush the top with egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
Use fresh yeast for better rising. Do not skip the rising step for a fluffy texture.
