Description

Traditional Polish dish made with minced meat, rice, and cabbage, all wrapped and baked in a tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 cup rice
  • 500 g ground meat (pork, beef, or mixed)
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400 g) tomatoes or 400 g tomato sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Spices (e.g., marjoram, thyme) to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice in salted water and drain.
  2. In a large skillet, heat oil, sauté the onion and garlic, then add the ground meat and cook until browned.
  3. Mix the meat with the cooked rice, seasoning with salt, pepper, and spices.
  4. Separate the cabbage leaves, blanch them in hot water until flexible.
  5. Place a spoonful of filling on each leaf and roll, tucking in the sides.
  6. Arrange the gołąbki in a baking dish, pour tomato sauce over them, and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 45-60 minutes.

Notes

Serve warm, ideally with extra tomato sauce and side dishes like fresh bread or potatoes. Gołąbki can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days, or frozen for later use.
