Description

Traditional Polish dumplings filled with various fillings, perfect as a main dish or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Filling of your choice (e.g. potatoes and cheese, sauerkraut, or sweet curd)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the flour and salt.
  2. Add the egg and gradually pour in the water until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, then let it rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough thinly and cut into circles.
  5. Place your chosen filling in the center of each circle, fold in half, and seal the edges.
  6. Cook the pierogi in salted water until they float to the surface, about 3-5 minutes.
  7. For extra flavor, sauté the cooked pierogi in butter before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with sour cream, onions, or bacon. You can also freeze them for later use.
