Description

Traditional Polish pea soup that warms and satisfies, perfect for cold days.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup green peas (dried)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 2 potatoes, diced
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Marjoram to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil or butter

Instructions

  1. Soak the green peas for several hours or overnight.
  2. In a large pot, heat oil or butter and add chopped onion, carrot, and celery; sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add soaked peas and water, bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for about 60-90 minutes until peas are tender.
  5. Add diced potatoes and cook until soft.
  6. Season with salt, pepper, and marjoram before serving.

Notes

Serve hot, optionally with fresh bread or topped with sausage or bacon for added flavor.
